Seed Series

This series is  inspired by scanning electron microscope images of seeds. Seeds are visually beautiful, even more so when knowing that everything about the shape and anatomy of a seed serves a function: from reaching a suitable habitat to grow in, laying in wait until conditions are optimal, and then sprouting. The art pieces are named after how that particular seed travels to a suitable place to grow. For instance, floating seeds, belonging usually to grasses, travel on the wind like kites or balloons. Seeds with hooks and spikes attach to the fur of animals to reach their final destination. Some instead contain food for insects, who drag the seed back to their underground nest as a feast. Other seeds drop from a mother plant and drill holes into the earth through a series of complex movements activated by soil water levels. You can see hints of those adaptations below, as each art piece was closely modeled from a specific seed image.
