Nest Series

Most animals that lay eggs or raise their young construct nests. These structures can be simple or awesomely complex. I began this series when I felt without a real home, and longed for belonging within a safe space. I am continuously inspired by the ways in which we, and other animals construct dwellings which provide security, comfort, and proximity to what we need to thrive.

Artist Statement:

I am drawn to organic forms. In nature, form dictates function: a feather, the interior of an ant hill, a crustacean’s shell. I’m also deeply interested in how time shows its effects, through how mountains wear, water carves river beds, and organic matter decays. I make work about line and form, with often heavy textural surface treatments. Exploration and experimentation plays a large role in my process of creating the forms.  I hope to invoke questions in the viewer, and a deeper appreciation for the natural world.
